April 29 – Spring Revels at Glen Echo

Join Washington Revels as we chase away Winter and celebrate the seasonal re-opening of Glen Echo Park’s 101-year-old Dentzel Carousel! We will provide a festive procession throughout the park,  followed by some joyous Maypole dancing (and you will be invited to join in). Later, the Washington Revels chorus of adults, teens, tweens, and children will be joined by the Whiskey Before Breakfast Band (and friends!), and some merry mummers, to present a festive celebration of Spring in the Bumper Car Pavilion. This family-friendly show will include many opportunities for you to join in the singing.

May 6 – May Revels at the Cathedral Flower Mart

Welcome spring with Washington Revels as we close the annual All Hallows Guild Flower Mart held at the Washington National Cathedral on May 6 at 4pm. We will process to the front steps of the cathedral (or inside the Cathedral, if there is rain)—dressed in traditional May “whites” with colorful sashes and flower wreathes—to celebrate the greening of the year with song, dance, and merry mumming. The Washington Revels chorus of adults, teens, tweens, and children will be joined by the Whiskey Before Breakfast Band (and friends!), to present a festive celebration of the month of May. We will sing, dance, crown a May monarch, present a Spring mummers’ play, wind the traditional Maypole with colored ribbons, and invite you to join in the fun with sing-alongs (including the Rattlin’ Bog!). This family-friendly event will have you jumping for joy!

February 11 – Jubilee Voices at Frederick Douglass Birthday Celebration

Join Washington Revels Jubilee Voices at the Opening Ceremonies for this annual program celebrating the “Lion of Anacostia,” Frederick Douglass. The celebration includes music by the Jubilee Voices and D.C. Strings, performances by the student winners of the Frederick Douglass Oratorical Contest and a light-hearted debate-style program. The Opening Ceremony begins at 2 p.m. (doors open early at 12:30 p.m.).

February 25 – Jubilee Voices at Little Falls Library

Gather as Jubilee Voices presents an interactive event that spans the breadth of African American history from the 19th century through the present. The 45-minute concert will feature songs, poetry and stories inspired by writers such as Langston Hughes, Eloise Greenfield, Maya Angelou, and Paul Lawrence Dunbar. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, Inc, Little Falls Library Designated Gift Fund.

October 15 – Jubilee Voices at Pleasant Grove

Washington Revels Jubilee Voices performs its third concert for the Black History Program at Historic Pleasant Grove Church, built by the descendants of enslaved people in the 1890s. Experience the traditional music that bound together many African American congregations in the late-19th and early-20th Centuries, with songs of faith & freedom, struggle & perseverance. The program concludes with refreshments and social time for performers and audience to meet and mingle.
