February 8 – Jubilee Voices at the Lyceum

For Black History Month, Washington Revels Jubilee Voices and the Office of Historic Alexandria’s Division of African American History will celebrate African American music, history and culture in a concert, “Still We Rise.” The show will explore the themes of freedom, resistance and resilience, from the Civil War through the present day. Join us for an afternoon of traditional African American spirituals, poetry, ring shouts, banjo tunes, stories, and lively audience participation.

February 14 – Frederick Douglass Birthday Celebration

Celebrate the life and legacy of activist, orator, and statesman Frederick Douglass! This 1.5-hour program will feature music by the Jubilee Voices of the Washington Revels, performances by the student winners of the annual Frederick Douglass Oratorical Contest, keynote speaker, Jeffrey Rosen, author of “The Pursuit of Happiness,” and President & CEO of The Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

February 15 – Jubilee Voices at Josiah Henson Museum & Park

Celebrate Black History Month with an interactive, family friendly concert by Jubilee Voices, and explore how the spirituals and elements of Black culture helped sustain African Americans on the long march to freedom. Concertgoers will enjoy spirituals, poetry, ring shouts, children’s songs, audience participation and more.

May 2 (11am) – Celebrate the Spring at Glen Echo Park

Join Washington Revels on May 2nd as we chase away Winter and celebrate the seasonal re-opening of the 105-year-old Dentzel Carousel at Glen Echo Park Partnership’s annual Carousel Day! Washington Revels will kick off the celebration with a festive musical procession throughout the park (11:00 a.m.). Following the parade, all are invited to take part in some joyous dancing around the Maypole.

May 2 (4pm) – Spring Revels at the National Cathedral

Welcome spring with Washington Revels as we close the annual All Hallows Guild Flower Mart held at the Washington National Cathedral on May 2 at 4pm. We will process to the front steps of the cathedral (or inside the Cathedral, if there is rain)—dressed in traditional May “whites” with colorful sashes and flower wreathes—to celebrate the greening of the year with song, dance, and merry mumming.
