For Black History Month, Washington Revels Jubilee Voices and the Office of Historic Alexandria’s Division of African American History will celebrate African American music, history and culture in a concert, “Still We Rise.” The show will explore the themes of freedom, resistance and resilience, from the Civil War through the present day. All are invited to a signature event at Oatlands Plantation bringing together descendants from all four National Historic Trust Sites of enslavement in Virginia for an afternoon of speakers, music and fellowship. This 1.5-hour program will feature music by the Jubilee Voices of the Washington Revels, performances by the student winners of the annual Frederick Douglass Oratorical Contest, keynote speaker, Jeffrey Rosen, author of “The Pursuit of Happiness,” and President & CEO of The Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
