You’re invited to an anniversary bash for Montgomery County on October 10 from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. in the Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park. We’ll have games, music, dancing, cake, and light refreshments to celebrate 250 years of our county. With special guests Ben Franklin, members of the Old Line Fife and Drum Corps, the Washington Revels Gallery Voices and the Whiskey Before Breakfast Band — this is one party 250 years in the making. As part of a program commemorating Maryland Emancipation Day, Jubilee Voices will present the history of “jubilee songs,” music that originated as spirituals sung by enslaved African Americans. These songs, which spoke of struggle, deliverance, and freedom, were made popular by groups like the Fisk University Jubilee Singers in the late 1800s.
Read more →Begun in 2018, the Talbot Avenue Bridge Lantern Walk is an annual family-friendly local community event that weaves together neighborhoods once divided by racial segregation and fittingly takes place during Montgomery County’s Remembrance and Reconciliation Month. Washington Revels Heritage Voices will be on hand to lead songs celebrating freedom, justice and community. All are welcome! Come join us in shining our lights in the darkness, promoting unity over division, remembering the past and taking steps toward a brighter future.
