Be a part of a spectacular holiday tradition seen by 10,000 people each December!
Washington Revels announces adult auditions for The Christmas Revels: Celtic Crossroads. Join our adult chorus and bring to life an exuberant blend of music, dance and story as we return to GW Lisner Auditorium to honor the season.
Our 39th annual production follows the Scots-Irish migration to the mountains of Appalachia, where the community gathers to celebrate “Old Christmas.” As the new families arrive, they are invited to share their traditions and trade melodies, creating a rich quilt of music, dance and story, both ancient and new. Fiddle tunes, traditional dance, and rituals like the Scottish “Hogmanay” intertwine with folk songs and ballads, shape-note hymns, African-American spirituals and more, in this high-spirited American céilí!
Our multigenerational cast–ages 8 to 80–will be joined by the Whiskey Before Breakfast Band, Washington Revels Brass, along with local tradition-bearers in a fully staged holiday production featuring rousing traditional songs, seasonal carols, ancient hymns, lush folk ballads, and all of the familiar Revels singalongs.
The Christmas Revels volunteer chorus is at the core of every production. Cast members are people who love to sing, who are enthusiastic about bringing music to life on stage, and who come from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and experience levels.
Please note: Auditioners will be masked at all times, with the option to unmask when singing their solo song during the audition.
