Jan. 29 – Pub Sing at McGinty’s

Gathering at an Irish Pub for a bit of singing gives us the perfect excuse to dabble in celebratory song — and in our usual Revels style, we’ll sing glass-raising songs from many cultures! Dust off your vocal chords and get ready to join in on rollicking tunes from England, Ireland, Scotland, Quebec, Denmark, and other cultures from around the globe.

Find us again at the traditional Irish pub and restaurant that has hosted our January Pub Sings for the past 10 years: McGinty’s Public House in Silver Spring! Our Pub Sing will be led by special guests Steve Winick and Jennifer Cutting, who will treat us to a variety of songs and lore. Songs will also be led by a host of other special guests from the Revels community. Hurra!

We’ll be easy to find—head to the second-floor bar area and follow the sounds of good cheer. Food and drinks may be ordered beginning at 6:00pm. Singing will begin at 7:00pm and formally end at 9:00pm, with a brief intermission. All songs will be sing-alongs, with song sheets and song leaders provided. Kids and teens are welcome—there may be a song or two that celebrate the virtue of drink, but not many.

We’ll sing a song or two toasting the January 25th birthday of Scottish poet Robert Burns, and we’ll raise the roof with a piper and ‘Auld Lang Syne’ as written by Burns himself. We’ll include some traditional Revels favorites for good measure!

Admission may be available at the door, but we strongly recommend that you purchase your tickets in advance online (no fees!) because seating is limited and we regularly sell out in advance. Ticket proceeds go entirely to Washington Revels; food and beverage may be ordered separately from the McGinty’s regular menu at your expense.
