Celebrate with Jubilee Voices at the Benjamin Drummond Emancipation Day Celebration
Join in for the closing concert of festivities surrounding the Hill Center’s Benjamin Drummond Emancipation Day Celebration. Traditional African-American songs and spoken word from the Civil War era, including shouts, hollers, code songs, signals, spiritual, field songs, and more. The historic Christ Church Episcopal on Capitol Hill, where John Philip Sousa worshiped, and where one of the Lincoln assassination co-conspirators was also a parishioner, will be the backdrop of this concert. Be sure to notice the other events around the Benjamin Drummond Emancipation Day Celebration – an impressive offering of lectures tours, and discussions.
