June 23 – Jazz Night in DC, Freddie Hubbard Tribute

Jazz Night in DC - Tribute to Freddie Hubbard

Jazz Night in DC is a cultural arts project that seeks to preserve and promote the art of jazz in the DC area. It presents a weekly performance every Friday, 6-9pm, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Southwest Washington, with some of the very most accomplished jazz artists in the region.

On Friday, June 23, the Michael Thomas Quintet will perform a special tribute to one of the great trumpet masters, Freddie Hubbard. This ensemble, which has been together for a remarkable 25 years, have been regulars at Jazz Night.  Master trumpeter Michael Thomas, who came out of Grambling State, is uniquely suited to present the artistry of Freddie Hubbard. He shares a range of mastery of different styles in jazz from swing to bebop to hard bop. The ensemble members are accomplished players who are innovators on their own.
