November 1 – Maritime Voices at Capital Maritime Music Fest

Capital Maritime Music Fest
A full day of maritime music, history and folklore!

On Saturday, November 1, 2014, the U.S. Naval Heritage Center will host the second annual  Capital Maritime Music Fest. The event will be co-sponsored by Washington Revels and the Folklore Society of Greater Washington. The Washington Revels Maritime Voices will be among the highlighted performing groups.

The Fest will showcase the music and lore of local and international maritime traditions performed by artists recognized for their dedication to the preservation and presentation of maritime material, old and new. A continuous series of afternoon workshops will combine music with folklore and historical information about maritime activities – for example, the Maritime Voices will present a workshop in which they will demonstrate how sea chanteys were used in working a sailing ship. A kickoff concert by the U.S. Navy Sea Chanters, and an evening concert by John Roberts, the Maritime Voices and others will showcase a variety of musical styles. Special kids’ activities will be added to make the event very family-friendly.  Vendors and exhibitors will add to the “landscape” of the festival.
