May 2 (11am) – Celebrate the Spring at Glen Echo Park

Procession at Glen Echo Page (2021)
Join Washington Revels as we chase away Winter and celebrate the seasonal re-opening of the 105-year-old Dentzel Carousel at Glen Echo Park Partnership’s annual Carousel Day!

Washington Revels will kick off the celebration with a festive musical procession throughout the park (11:00 a.m.). Following the parade, all are invited to take part in some joyous dancing around the Maypole. Throughout the day, see a Latin American mummers play, inspired by traveling La Carpa–tent shows that toured Mexico and the southwestern U.S. in the early 1900s.

All are welcome to this free, family-friendly event—performances by many other local artists will take place throughout the day, as well as kids’ arts & crafts, open artist studios & galleries, and much more. And, of course, you are invited to ride the historic carousel.

Later in the day, at 4:00 p.m., we will present a full May Revels performance at the National Cathedral Flower Mart.
