July 24, 2010WASHINGTON REVELS at the BETHESDA BIG TRAIN!

Bethsada Big TrainWashington Revels will be entertaining the fans before and during a Bethesda Big Train baseball game. Come out and sing along with Revels, and enjoy great baseball in a great setting!

The Big Train, named for Washington Senators pitcher Walter Johnson, is a summer, collegiate, wooden-bat team playing in the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League. Their home games are played at Shirley Povich Field in Cabin John Park (near Montgomery Mall). Povich Field is a wonderful ball park that makes fans feel they are back in small-town America. The Washington Post has called it "the ultimate small town fantasy." The baseball is high-quality, with numerous "graduates" from the team now in professional baseball, including the Major Leagues. The park seats 850 and for most games the stands are full.

The July 24th game is with arch-rival Youse Orioles for the last game of the season (which decided the league championship last year). Starting at about 7pm, while the teams are warming up, a group of Revels singers will serenade the fans as they enter the field. Prior to the first pitch at 7:30, the singers will go out to the pitcher's mound and lead the fans in singing the National Anthem. After the second or third inning, they will sing another song or two as the teams are changing the field. Then, at the 7th inning stretch, Revels will lead the crowd in singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" and urge everyone to "Root, root, root, for the Big Train!"

Cost (for Game): Adults: $7; Kids (6-12): $3; 5 and under: free (payable at stadium)
Location: Shirley Povich Field, 10600 Westlake Drive in Cabin John Regional Park, Bethesda, MD <view map>
