June 16 – Day of Service (Day #1!)

A “Father’s Day” Bowl Painting Session

Create three beautiful things with your child — a memory, a bowl to give to the homeless, and a bowl to keep — at our special Father’s Day event!

Join us for a collaboration between Montgomery College Art Professor Robert Devers, the terrific organization So Others Might Eat (SOME), and Washington Revels! We’ll return to Blue Fire Ceramics Studio to paint bowls that will be donated to SOME. Revelers will be passing on the Revels joy in a unique way — our bowls will help SOME in its mission to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness. (And we’re already planning future collaborations with SOME that will include getting SOME folks singing with Revelers at a SOME dinner or event.)

As an extra-special treat, June 16 is Father’s Day! We’ll be honoring dads, father-figures, and the incredible superpowers of all parents — and parent-child pairs will get first dibs to participate. What better way to celebrate your parent-child relationship than by working side-by-side to make a gift that will help someone in need. And, as an extra-extra-special treat, if you can attend for the whole event, you and your child can choose to paint a bowl together that you can keep — a perfect Father’s Day gift!

Blue Fire Ceramics Studio is small and full of fragile art — parents with rambunctious or young children may prefer our bowl painting event in the Revels Studio Space on July 9. Feel free to add your name to the “interested” list for July 9 by emailing jrasi@revelsdc.org.

What to bring: just yourself and your voice. We will sing a few songs to Professor Devers and studio guests and encourage them to join in — that’s painting bowls Revels style!
