February 16 – Jubilee Voices at Frederick Douglass House

Jubilee Voices performing at the Frederick Douglass House in Washington, DC

Celebrate the life and legacy of activist, orator, and statesman Frederick Douglass!

Washington Revels Jubilee Voices will perform during the opening ceremonies of the annual Frederick Douglass Birthday Commemoration, part of an afternoon of free activities sponsored by the National Park Service. The celebration kicks off at 1 pm at nearby DC Prep Academy. Jubilee Voices will sing towards the beginning of the proceedings and then will conclude the event with a number of traditional African American songs from Frederick Douglass’ time and beyond.

Ceremony attendees will also hear poetry written and read by local youth and dramatic recitations of Douglass’s most famous speeches performed by winners of the annual Frederick Douglass National Historic Site Oratorical Contest! And from 1-4, the Frederick Douglass House will be open for ranger-led tours.
