June 3 — Maritime Voices at C&O Canal

Maritime at canal
To celebrate 19th-Century life on the Canal, Washington Revels Maritime Voices will present songs from the C&O, Erie Canal and other inland waterways, together with songs of the open sea and shore. For good measure, at the request of the National Park Service, the Voices will also perform Irish songs honoring the major contributions of Irish laborers in building the C&O, and Civil War songs commemorating the significant role the C&O played in that war.

Come enjoy the music, and take a ride in a full-scale mule-pulled replica of the boats that plied the canal. The Maritime Voices will sing to passengers returning on the canal boats at 11:45 am and 2:15 pm, with full concerts outside the Visitors Center at Noon and 2:30 pm. See the National Park Service website for information about the times and costs for the boat rides. Kids can participate in activities to become C&O Canal Junior Rangers!
